The same way that the advent of firearms changed the nature of warfare forever has recently happened again due to the rising trend of drone warfare. Whether being used for reconnaissance or payload delivery, soldiers on the modern battlefield have a new type of enemy to beware. We’ve all seen plenty of footage out of Ukraine showing what they can do. They’re sneaky, small, and extremely fast, and those all make for a target that’s very difficult to shoot. Companies across the globe have been racing to find solutions for individual soldiers to better combat this threat, from jamming technology to new weapon systems and ammunition types, but EOTECH’s answer has just come in the form of the CUAS.

CUAS stands for Counter Unmanned Aircraft Sight, and as the name implies, it’s meant to help soldiers make good hits on drones. That said, the only thing really new about them is their specialized reticle, and it will be available in EOTECH’s EXPS3 and XPS3 holographic sights. The reticle features a primary aiming dot surrounded by a fractured outer circle to expedite target acquisition. It also has lead reference aiming points on either side designed to provide intuitive holds on moving drones at different ranges. EOTECH says that the reticle was designed with a 30-mph drone crossing at a 90-degree path in mind, with the inner two dots for use at 50 meters and the outer two chevrons for use at 90 meters. Obviously, drones travel at unknown speeds and varying ranges and angles of approach, so the reticle isn’t a panacea for accurately engaging them. Plenty of intuition and skill will still be required on the part of the shooter, but it should make hitting them easier than with a standard optic.

Todd Estes, VP of Engineering for EOTECH, said this about the new CUAS sights:

Holography is essential when designing large pattern reticles. The CUAS reticle is achieved through complex and often expensive unconventional optics to correct for parallax error and other aberrations … The holographic solution ensures that all the potential aiming points stay in focus at the target position regardless of the size and shape of the reticle. Holographic optical elements provide a wider field of view and unrecognizable parallax compared to conventional lenses.

Availability and pricing for the EOTECH CUAS sights have not yet been announced.

For more information, visit eotechinc.com.

More AR Upgrades

Next Step: Get your FREE Printable Target Pack

Enhance your shooting precision with our 62 MOA Targets, perfect for rifles and handguns.
